‘In alle talen zwijgen’ or ‘geen blad voor de mond nemen’?
Idioms and expressions in another language are very difficult. They make use of visual language, but these images are often difficult to recognise because they might be based on images from the past, for example. This can be quite a challenge to learners! At the same time, visual language can still be fun and it can help you learn Dutch even better.
For advanced course participants and non-native speaking students in secondary education, we offer Beeldtaal. The author of Klare taal! and Eenvoudige basisgrammatica NT2 introduces students to Dutch idioms in Beeldtaal. Drawing on images from the past, a great deal of attention is devoted to visual language, and the meaning of all kinds of idioms is clearly explained.
Target group
Advanced students can use Beeldtaal together with any NT2 teaching method. The book can be used in class or for self-study, as the answers are in the back.
