‘In alle talen zwijgen’ or ‘geen blad voor de mond nemen’?

Idioms and expressions in another language are very difficult. They make use of visual language, but these images are often difficult to recognise because they might be based on images from the past, for example. This can be quite a challenge to learners! At the same time, visual language can still be fun and it can help you learn Dutch even better.

For advanced course participants and non-native speaking students in secondary education, we offer Beeldtaal.
