Good pronunciation is of great importance to be understood in Dutch by the Dutch. Nevertheless, this aspect of the Dutch language can sometimes get overlooked. Further, many teachers are uncertain about their own knowledge of the Dutch pronunciation rules. Because of this, they sometimes do not dare to give feedback on their students’ pronunciation.
In this NT2-cahier author Margreet Verboog describes the difference between pronunciation and spelling in Dutch, as well as the obstacles many students face when attempting to pronounce Dutch words. In addition, this book offers tools for handling pronunciation in class and giving feedback.
